Troop 212 Logo Paper Box Information

The Paper Box is a money making project for our troop. The troop collects donated newspaper from the collection box at the Gig Harbor Thriftway parking lot, and transfers it to a holding container at Harbor Covenant Church.

All Scouts are required to participate in emptying the paper box. Each patrol is assigned to service the paper box for one week each month. Please check your Scout Calendar for your patrol's week. The week runs from Tuesday to Monday the following week.

The box at the Thiftway parking lot is to be completely emptied each Saturday at 10 A.M. and taken to the container at Harbor Covenant Church at 5601 Gustafson Drive. When the receiving container is approximately 3/4 full, the patrol leader should promptly phone Mr. Chuck Perry to have the container emptied by the recycling company.

Load newspaper into the container using the side doors (if half full or less of paper).

Brown paper bags full of newspaper can be used to build a barrier wall. You can then toss all loose papers as far in as possible.

Be sure to remove all string, plastics, cardboard, magazines, and junk! This stuff is not accepted as recyclable newspaper, and the troop will receive less money for the newspaper if it contains other materials.

Any non-newspaper items can be placed in the trash dumpster located near the paper dumpster.

Finish up by making sure both containers are closed and the area has been policed thoroughly.

In the event that the container is full, the papers should be taken to either the recycling container at Discovery Elementary School or to the Fire Station on Kimball Drive.

Attendance for paper box duties will be taken by each patrol leader. Participation in this activity is essential for rank advancement, because it shows Scout Spirit.

We understand not everyone will be able to participate on Saturdays. The box can be emptied at your convenience at any time during the week if you cannot attend the Saturday morning pickup. Please let your patrol leader know so he can keep track and put you on the bead list.

Call your Patrol Leader and/or Bead Master when you are done.
